Calanthe discolor Eco White Peru The result is an insanely

Baker’s notes & crumb story

Description

The result is an insanely vigorous 30" tall x 6' wide specimen that emerges with dark purple stems clothed in narrow glaucous green leaves and topped

Our eight-year-old patch is 6' wide at the base and looks like a series of giant torches

we have found Polianthes 'Swarna Rekah' much more winter hardy than the unmutated double tuberose

the clump flowers from June through October

the clumps bear greenish-white spathe and spadix flowers

Calanthe discolor Eco White Peru The result is an insanelyMany years ago, we obtained this superb Asian orchid from Don Jacobs of Eco Gardens. Don purchased the plant in Japan back in the early 1980's. What thrilled us is that this hardy orchid has been the fastest multiplying of the calanthes in our garden. C. 'Eco White' is either a selection or hybrid of the Japanese native C. discolor. In late spring, the pleated green leaves lay flat to form a nice background for the spikes of white lipped flowers
